The Warrnambool Cemetery is full of rich military history.
There are 250 - 300 WW1 veterans who served, returned & resumed their lives as best they could before passing away and being buried in the Warrnambool Cemetery.
There are 47 graves with a family memorial that mentions one of their loved ones who died in Gallipoli in 1915 or France in 1916.
For years, Doug Heazlewood made it his duty to take locals through the cemetery and pass on historical details of those men and their service achievements.
There is also one big misconception about an iconic Australian film called Gallipoli.
While it followed two soldiers from Western Australia, the screenplay is based on the 8th Light Horse Regiment, made up of men who enlisted in the Western Districts surrounding Warrnambool.
Tonight we revisit this original Fitzmedia Documentary ahead of ANZAC Day 2025.
