Mosswood Wildlife is based just outside of Koroit, in Southwest Victoria, rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing native wildlife from all over the Western District to the South Australian Border, and it is 100% reliant on donations & volunteers.
There isn’t a purpose-built national wildlife rehabilitation centre or animal hospital anywhere else in the region other than vets, yet this voluntary organisation fills that void as best it can.
For almost two decades, Founders Tracey and Peter Wilson have dedicated their lives and their home to Koalas, Ducks, Magpies, Wedge Tailed Eagles, Echidna’s, Swans, Penguins – you name it they have rescued it, cared for it and returned it to the wild.
They have done this with no funding support, and a handful of dedicated volunteers.
Tonight on this first of two parts, we go behind the scenes at Mosswood and find out about it's beginning.
We then speak about the day to day operations of the organisation, and showcase just how much work is involved in running this operation.
To put it into perspective, the amount of work Tracey, Peter and their small but dedicated band of volunteers do is the equivalent of a major operation, with hundreds of volunteers and even paid staff members.
We ask that you consider assisting in them in any way you can, as the thought of them having to close down is a really scarey prospect.
You can donate to Mosswood by clicking the link below, you can provide a once off donation, or set up weekly or monthly donations. They really need our help.
